मुलतानी २ संज्ञा स्त्री०
१. एक रागिनी जिसमें गांधार और धैवत कोमल,
शुद्ध निपाद और तीव्र मध्यम लगता है । इनके अतिरिक्त तीनों
स्वर शुद्ध लगते हैं । संगीत शास्त्र में इसे श्रीराग की रागिनी
कहा है और हनुमत् के मत से यह दीपक राग की रागिनी है ।
इसके गाने का समय २१ से २४ दंड तक है । २. एक प्रकार की बहुत कोमल और चिकनी मिट्टी जो मुलतान से आती है ।
विशेष—इसका रंग बादामी होता है और यह प्रायः सिर मलने में
साबुन की तरह काम में आती है । इससे सोनार लोग सोना
भी साफ करते हैं और छीपी लोग इससे अनेक प्रकार के रंगों
में अस्तर देते हैं । साधु आदि इससे कपड़ा रँगते हैं ।
मुहा०—मुलतानी करना = छींट छापने के पहले कपड़े को मुलतानी
मिट्टी में रँगना ।
