विशेष—रूही का वृक्ष हिमालय पर्वत के नीचे रावी नदी के
पूर्व में तथा मध्यभारत और मद्रास प्रांत में पाया जाता है ।
इसे चौरी और मामरी भी कहते हैं । इसकी छाल देशी औषधियों
में काम आती है और जड़ साँप काटने की ओषधि मानी जाती है । इसकी लकड़ी तौल में प्रति धनफुट २७ सेर तक होती है ।
यह बहुत मजबूत और चिकनी होती है । रंग देने और वार्निश
करने से इसपर बहुत अच्छी चमक आती है । इससे मेज, कुरसी,
आलमारी और तसवीर के चौखटे बनाए जाते हैं । यह वृक्ष
बीज से बरसात में उगता है । इसको संस्कृत में 'अहिगंधा'
कहते हैं । इसकी पत्तियाँ उत्तेजक और कटु होती हैं । इसकी
छाल पेट की पीड़ा और अँतरिया ज्वर में दी जाती है । इसकी
मात्रा ३ माशे से ६ माशे तक है । यह मधु के साथ कुष्ठ रोग
में और काली मिर्च के साथ पीसकर विशूचिका तथा अतिसार
में दी जाती है । इसे वैद्य लोग ईसरमूल, अर्कमूल और रूहीमूल
कहते हैं ।
