सुगंधित गोंद ।
विशेष—कुछ लोग इसे खनिज भी मानते हैं, पर वास्तव में यह एक
वृक्ष का गोंद अथवा जमा हुआ दूध है । इसका वृक्ष पूरबी
बंगाल, आसाम, भूठान, पेगू, चीन, मलाया, मेरगुई, जावा और
यूनान में पाया जाता है । इसका वृक्ष ६० से १०० फुट तक
ऊँचा होता है । इसके पत्ते ४ १/२ इंच तक लंबे, जड़ की ओर गो
लाकार, अनीदार और किंचित् बारीक कँगूरेदार होते हैं ।
शाखाओं के अंत में घुंडीदार फूल होते हैं । फल गोलाकार होते
है जिनमें बीजों की अधिकता होती है । वैद्यक के अनुसार यह
कड़वा, चरपरा, स्वदिष्ट, स्निग्ध, गरम, सुगंधित, वर्ण को सुंदर
करनेवाला और त्रिदोष आदि को शांत करनेवाला होता है ।
