वेशेष— इस देश को हिंदुस्तान में भोल करते हैं । इसके तीन
विभाग माने जाते हैं । छोटा तिब्बत, बड़ा तिब्बत और खास
तिब्बत । तिब्बत बहुत ठंढ़ा देश है, इससे वहाँ पेड़ पौधे बहुत
कम उगते हैं । यहाँ के निवासी तातारियों के मिलते जुलते
होते हैं और अधिकरतर ऊच के कंबल, कपडें आदि बुनकर
अपना निर्वाह करते हैं । देश कस्तूरी और चँवर के लिये
प्रसिद्ध है । सुरा पाय और कस्तूरी मृग यहाँ बहुत पाए जाते
हैं । तिब्बत के रहनेवाले सब महायान शाखा के बौद्ध हैं ।
बौद्धों के अनेक मठ और महंत हैं । कैलास पर्वत और मान-
सरोवर झील तिब्बत ही में हैं । ये हिंतू और बौद्ध दोनों के
तीर्थ-स्थान हैं । कुछ लोग 'तिब्बत' को त्रिविष्टप् का अपभ्रंश
वतलाते हैं । स्वतंत्र भारत ने इसे चीन को दे दिया और यह
देश अब पूर्णतः चीनी शासन में है और वहाँ के प्रमुख
दलाई लामा भारत में निवास करते हैं ।
