Akureyri (Akureyri) is a city that faces the Eyyfjord in the northern part of Iceland. It is the second largest city in Iceland, after Reykjavik, with a population of 17,253 people. Located at the far end of the fjord called Eyja Fjordur, it is a natural harbor. Because of the fjord, a very small part of the ocean including downtown is flat, but there are many steep slopes other than that. Emerging residential areas spread in the southwestern part. Tourists also visited during the summer, and showed bustling. National Route 1 (Ring Road) penetrates north and south along the coastline. The amount of cars heading from this city to the east of the Egyptian Strip is very small. On the slender artificial island made in the valley of the fjord in the southern part of the city is the Akureyri Airport. Originated from the Viking settlement that emigrated from the Scandinavian peninsula in the 9th century, developed by trade in the 18th century. Currently the fishing industry is thriving.
