Ajulun (Arabic: عجلون Ajurun, Ajlun, Ajloun, Ā jlūn) is the city of northern Jordan and the prefecture capital of Ajrun province. It is a hill-rich town located 76 km northwest from the capital city of Amman. The impressive ruins of the 12th century castle (Ajrun Castle) are famous. According to the 2004 census, the population of the town of Ajrun is 7,289 people. Most are Muslims, others are Christian communities. In Ajurun province, there are 27 towns and villages including Ajul in an area of 420 square kilometers, and the population exceeds 130 thousand people. Many people in the prefecture are engaged in agriculture. The Ajrung mountains are known for lush vegetation and deep woods and are suitable for hiking. The highest peak of the mountain range reaches 1,250 m above sea level.
