Chikyu Simulator 【Earth Simulator】 "Earth Simulator" Supercomputer developed as a national project of Japan. Made by NEC. It was established at the Yokohama Research Center of the Japan Ocean Research and Development Organization, and started operation in 2002 (2002). It boasted the fastest computing speed in the world until 2004 (2004). It is mainly used for elucidating changes in the global environment including the atmosphere and the ocean and movement of the crust and mantle inside the earth. Through simulations predicting global warming, I contributed greatly to the 2007 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. ちきゅう‐シミュレーター【地球シミュレーター】 《Earth Simulator》日本の国家プロジェクトとして開発されたスーパーコンピューター。NEC製。海洋研究開発機構横浜研究所に設置され、平成14年(2002)に運用開始。平成16年(2004)まで世界最速の演算速度を誇った。主に大気・海洋を含む地球環境変動や地球内部の地殻・マントルの動きなどの解明に用いられる。地球温暖化を予測するシミュレーションによって、気候変動に関する政府間パネル(IPCC)の2007年ノーベル平和賞受賞に大きく貢献した。
