Elmina Castle "Elmina Castle" A castle in Elmina, a port city in the south of Ghana. Portugal built as a trading base at the end of the 15th century. Subsequently, it was used under the control of the Netherlands and the UK, and now it is a police station. It is known as one of the oldest European architecture existing in sub-Saharan Africa. In 1979, it was registered as a World Heritage (cultural heritage) as one of the "Volta, Greater Accra, Central Province, Western Province Citadel". エルミナ‐じょう【エルミナ城】 《Elmina Castle》ガーナ南部の港町エルミナにある城塞。15世紀末にポルトガルが交易拠点として建造。続いて、オランダ、英国の支配の下で利用され、現在は警察署となっている。サハラ以南に現存するヨーロッパ建築の最古の一つとして知られる。1979年、「ボルタ州、グレーターアクラ州、セントラル州、ウェスタン州の城塞群」の一つとして世界遺産(文化遺産)に登録された。
