Batalha monastery [Batalha monastery] "Mosteiro da Batalha" Abbey in Batalha, a town in the middle western part of Portugal. The official name is Victory of the Virgin Mary Abbey. In 1385, Joan I (King of Portugal) got a miraculous victory in the fight against the Castile army and started the construction of a monastery honoring the Virgin Mary three years later. Known as the oldest Gothic style building in the country, it was registered as a World Heritage (cultural heritage) in 1983. バターリャ‐しゅうどういん【バターリャ修道院】 《Mosteiro da Batalha》ポルトガル中西部の町バターリャにある修道院。正式名称は、勝利の聖母マリア修道院。1385年、カスティーリャ軍との戦いでジョアン1世(ポルトガル王)が奇跡的な勝利を収め、3年後に聖母マリアを称えた修道院の建設を開始した。同国最古のゴシック様式の建築物として知られ、1983年に世界遺産(文化遺産)に登録された。
