Higashi Timor 【East Timor】 "East Timor" Republic of Southeast Asia, occupying the east half of Timor Island on the eastern end of the small Sunda Islands. The official name is East Timor Democratic Republic. Capital Dili. Portuguese territory since the 16th century. Even if Indonesia became independent from the Netherlands in 1949 and the West half of the island became Indonesian territory, Portuguese rule continued in the eastern half. East Timor Independent Revolutionary Front (Fretilin) declared independence in 1975, but Indonesia invaded the military. After independent struggle, officially independence in 2002.
