Dura Europos Dura Europos is an urban ruin located in eastern Syria. It is located along the middle of the Euphrates River. It was built in the 3rd century BC and during the Seleucos morning, developed as a military fortress and trade city under the control of the Parthian Kingdom. The military base of the ancient Roman Empire was put in the 2nd century AD, but it was conquered and destroyed by the Sharp Pool I of Sasanian Persia in the mid 3rd century. A fresco painting depicting the scenes of the Old Testament discovered in Jewish synagogues is known as the earliest work of early Christian art. ドゥラ‐エウロポス【Dura Europos】 シリア東部にある都市遺跡。ユーフラテス川中流沿いに位置する。紀元前3世紀、セレウコス朝時代に建設され、パルティア王国の支配下において軍事要塞および交易都市として発展。紀元後2世紀に古代ローマ帝国の軍事拠点が置かれたが、3世紀半ば、ササン朝ペルシアのシャープール1世によって征服されて滅びた。ユダヤ教のシナゴーグで発見された旧約聖書の場面を描いたフレスコ画は、初期キリスト教美術の最古の作品として知られる。
