Bladder cancer is a cancer that develops in the bladder mucosa, the most frequently occurring cancer of the urological area. Bladder cancer is one of the five major malignancies of Korean males in 2002, the fifth most frequent occurrence after stomach, lung, liver, and colon cancer. Most older people aged 65 years or older have a history of smoking in older males, and although the morphology varies, more than 90% of the total epithelial cancers take up the entirety. 방광암이란 방광암이란 방광 점막에 생기는 암으로, 비뇨기과 영역의 암 중에서 발생 빈도가 가장 높습니다. 일반인에겐 다소 생소할 수 있으나, 방광암은 2002년 기준 한국 남성 5대암 가운데 하나로 위, 폐, 간, 대장암에 이어 발생 빈도가 다섯번째로 높습니다. 주로 65세 이상의 고령층을 중심으로 흡연경력이 오래된 남성에서 발생하고, 조직 형태는 다양하지만 이행상피세포암이 전체의 90% 이상을 차지하고 있습니다.
