Dicarboxylic acids are organic compounds that have been replaced by two carboxylic acid functional groups. It is often used as HOOC-R-COOH in the molecular formula of dicarboxylic acid. Where R is located, there are usually Alkane, Alken, Alcaine groups. Dicarboxylic acids are also used to make copolymers such as nylon or polyethylene terephthalate. Typically, dicarboxylic acids behave the same way as monocarboxylic acids. The ionization of the second carboxyl group does not occur more easily than the first carboxyl group. This is because separating one anion from the hydrogen ion requires more energy to separate the divalent anion from the hydrogen ion.
