Hoengseong-eup is a small-market market village developed on the slope of the mountain line, which is the contact line between the western plains and eastern Taebaek mountains. It is the seat of the county government of Hoengseong County, and is located on the left bank of the south river of the Namhan River. There is a lot of production of agricultural, livestock and livestock products as a key point of traffic which is the intersection of Gangneung road and Chuncheon and Wonju highway. There are many colorful buildings of Unam-jung in Namsan and Byeongboksa in Songgwon, which is rich in rice paddy fields, and the name of Namsan Temple and Bongboksa Temple. There are 157 elementary schools, 54 middle schools, and 48 high schools. 횡성읍은 서부 평야와 동부 태백산지와의 접촉선인 산록선의 곡구에 발달한 곡구시장취락이다. 횡성군의 군청 소재지이며, 남한강의 지류 섬강의 좌안에 자리잡고 있다. 강릉가도와 춘천 · 원주가도의 교차점이 되는 교통의 요충지로 농림 · 축산물의 생산량이 많다. 군내에는 노송림이 울창한 송원, 섬강 유역에 있는 운암정의 화려한 건물과 남산사 및 봉복사의 거찰도 이름이 높고, 이 밖에도 덕고산, 개원사, 회진사 등이 있다. 군내에는 초등학교 157개교, 중학교 54개교, 고등학교 48개교가 있다.
