It is a medium sized herbivore with a shell length of about 2 cm, which is relatively common in rocks or gravels in the East Sea of Korea and the southern coastal depths of 2-5 m. The shell has various color variations such as dark brown to brown or green brown as a whole, and is hard and does not break easily. On the surface, vertical lines in the diagonal direction are formed with clear troughs. It is nocturnal and hides in the bottom of rock gaps or pebbles in the daytime and mainly feeds at night. 갯골뱅이 우리나라 동해와 남해 연안 수심 2~5m 정도의 암반 또는 자갈 조하대에서 비교적 흔하게 발견되는 패각길이 2cm 전후의 중형 초식성 고둥류이다. 패각은 전체적으로 흑갈색에서 갈색 또는 녹갈색 등 다양한 색채변이를 보이며 단단하여 쉽게 부서지지 않는다. 표면에는 대각선 방향의 세로줄이 명확한 골을 이루며 형성되어 있다. 야행성으로 주간에는 바위 틈이나 자갈의 아랫면에 숨어 지내다가 야간에 주로 섭식활동을 한다.
