Trishaw
Beca is a three-wheeled vehicle originating from the lanca. Beca in Malaysia, in a written record, started in Singapore in 1914 when 15 becak was registered and introduced as the Upton Garden tricycle. This has a paddle on the side of the passenger. There is also a rickshaw model with paddlers on the back or in front of passengers. Roofs are also installed to provide shade to passengers. The earliest trishaw record was when it was used in Singapore in 1914 when 15 trishaws were registered and introduced as Upton Park tricycle. However, it was found to be difficult to operate through narrow and winding roads as opposed to man-drawn lanca. Because of this, the first batch of 19x becak was sold and brought to Java. Only in the late 1920s the rickshaw was introduced again in Singapore and its usefulness increased with the arrival of Chinese migrants who found to bring trishaws to provide good income. Beca then became increasingly popular in Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and all over Asia. Beca used for transporting passengers, but there are also becak used specifically for transporting goods.
