Gong

Gong is a kind of 'idiophone' musical instrument originating from South Asia and Southeast Asia. Gong has existed since the age of bronze from Yunan. Gong is also played to accompany leather puppets in Indonesia. Gong is an important tool that serves as the sound of the spine in the essemble of gamelan music performances. Gong is made up of various sizes to produce different sounds each and play together according to the beat of the song. In general, 1 or 2 drums are played simultaneously to diversify the more unique music rhythms. Gong has been found throughout the Indochina peninsula and the archipelago as a major instrument in special ceremonies and traditional music performances. In Malaysia, the earliest discovery of the gong form was the Dong Son drum that was found in Batu Buruuk, Terengganu in 1974. It was produced from 600 BC or earlier until the 3rd Century and is one of the best examples of metal work. Gong merupakan sejenis peralatan muzik 'idiophone' yang berasal dari Asia Selatan dan Asia Tenggara. Gong telah wujud semenjak zaman gangsa lagi dari Yunan. Gong juga dimainkan bagi mengiringi permainan wayang kulit di Indonesia. Gong merupakan alatan penting yang berperanan sebagai bunyi tulang belakang dalam essemble persembahan muzik gamelan. Gong terdiri daripada pelbagai saiz untuk menghasilkan bunyi yang berbeza setiap satunya dan dimainkan bersama-sama mengikut rentak lagu. Kebiasannya, 1 atau 2 drum turut dimainkan serentak untuk mempelbagaikan irama muzik yang lebih unik. Gong telah banyak dijumpai di seluruh semenanjung Indochina dan kepulauan Nusantara ebagai alat utama dalam upacara khas dan persembahan muzik tradisional. Di Malaysia, jumpaan terawal bentuk awal gong adalah gendang Dong Son yang dijumpai di Batu Buruuk, Terengganu pada 1974. Ia dihasilkan sejak 600 BC atau lebih awal sehingga Abad ke-3 dan merupakan salah satu contoh hasil kerja logam budaya itu yang terbaik.
