Book of Leviticus
Kitab Imamat
The Book of Imamat or Wayiqra is the third volume of the Hebrew Book, and the third of the five volumes of the Torah. The book of Leviticus contains the laws and ceremonies of the priesthood, but generally details God's covenant with Israel as described in Genesis and Exodus-described in the Torah as the effects of having a special relationship with God. These effects are expressed in terms of relationships and behavior of the community. The first 16 chapters and one last chapter form the Law of the Church that sets the rules of ceremonial cleanliness, sinning, and Redemption Day, including Chapter 12 which obligates men to circumcise. Chapter 17-26 contains the Law of Holiness which includes the warning in chapter 19 to "love your neighbor as yourself". This book deals with many "abominations", in particular the prohibition of nutrition and sex. Generally, these laws were submitted to the Hebrews, except for some prohibitions imposed equally on "foreigners living in the midst of Israel." According to Jewish and Christian traditions, God dictated the Book of Leviticus to Moses a.s.
