Communism is a political ideology and socio-economic structure that encourages the establishment of an egalitarian, non-class, and non-state society based on common ownership and control over factors of production and property in general. Karl Marx hosts communism as the final stage in human society, which can be achieved through the revolution of the proletarian class. "Pure communism" according to Marx refers to a non-class, non-repressive and non-repressive society where decisions on production and democratically-based policies mean that every member of the community takes part in the decision-making process economically, politically and socially. As a political ideology, communism is regarded as a branch of socialism; a broad philosophy of economics and politics influenced by various political and intellectual movements with their origin from their work on the Industrial Revolution and the French Revolution. Communism tries to give an alternative to the problems in the capitalism market economy and colonial legacy and nationalism.

Karl Marx menganjurkan komunisme sebagai peringkat akhir dalam masyarakat manusia, yang boleh dicapai melalui revolusi golongan proletariat. "Komunisme tulen" menurut Marx merujuk kepada masyarakat tanpa kelas, tanpa negara dan bebas penindasan di mana keputusan tentang pengeluaran dan dasar yang dibuat secara demokratik bermakna membenarkan setiap ahli masyarakat mengambil bahagian dalam proses membuat keputusan dari segi ekonomi, politik dan sosial.
