The surahs are the Arabic word for "chapter in the Qur'an". The suras have been revealed for 23 years and have their own unique features and chronology. The total number of suras contained in the Quran is 114; whose names and limits for each chapter as well as the order of the verse itself are in accordance with the provisions set forth by Allah and taught by the Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. Some of the suras have one name and some have more than one name.

Surah - sūratun merupakan perkataan arab bagi "bab Dalam al-Qur'an". Surah-surah tersebut telah diturunkan sepanjang 23 tahun dan mempunyai ciri-ciri dan kronologi masa yang tersendiri. Jumlah surah yang terdapat dalam Quran adalah 114; yang mana nama-nama dan had-had bagi setiap surah serta susunan ayat itu sendiri adalah menurut ketentuan yang telah ditetapkan dari Allah dan diajar oleh Nabi Muhammad s.a.w. Sebahagian dari surah-surah mempunyai satu nama dan ada yang mempunyai lebih dari satu nama.
