Alnico

Alnico is an acronym relating to the family of alloys or iron sinters, which apart from iron contain mainly aluminum, nickel and cobalt - hence the name Al-Ni-Co. These alloys sometimes contain copper and titanium. Alnico alloys are ferromagnetic, with high coercion, and are therefore used to produce permanent magnets. The development of alnico alloys began in Japan in 1931, when T.Mishima discovered that the alloy of iron, nickel and aluminum had a coincidence of 400 ersteads, twice as strong as the strongest steel magnets of those days. Prior to the development of magnets containing rare earths, they were the most powerful among the existing types of magnets. The typical composition of alnico alloys is 8-12% Al, 15-26% Ni, 5-24% Co, up to 6% Cu, up to 1% Ti, supplemented with 100% Fe.

Alnico jest akronimem odnoszącym się do rodziny stopów bądź spieków żelaznych, które oprócz żelaza zawierają głównie glin, nikiel i kobalt - stąd też nazwa Al-Ni-Co. Stopy te zawierają czasami również miedź i tytan. Stopy alnico są ferromagnetykami, z wysoką koercją, stąd też wykorzystywane są do produkcji trwałych magnesów. Rozwój stopów alnico rozpoczął się w Japonii, w 1931, kiedy T.Mishima odkrył, że stop żelaza, niklu i aluminium ma koercję 400 erstedów, dwukrotnie więcej niż najmocniejsze magnesy stalowe w tamtych czasach. Przed opracowaniem magnesów zawierających pierwiastki ziem rzadkich były one najmocniejszymi spośród istniejących typów magnesów. Typowy skład stopów alnico to 8–12% Al, 15–26% Ni, 5–24% Co, do 6% Cu, do 1% Ti, uzupełnione do 100% Fe.
