Acatalepsy

Acatalepsia

Acatalepsy in philosophy, is the incomprehension or the impossibility of understanding or conceiving a thing The Pyrrhonians tried to show, while skeptics of the Platonic Academy an absolute acatalepsia; all sciences or human knowledge, according to them, do not go beyond appearances and verisimilitude. It is the antithesis of the Stoic doctrine of catalepsy or apprehension. According to the Stoics, catalepsy was the true perception, but for the skeptics, all perceptions were acaracetic, that is, they had no conformity to perceived objects, or, if they endorsed any conformity, you could never be known.
