Craniosynostosis

Craniossinostose

Craniosynostosis or cranioestenosis, also called craniofacial stenosis is an anomaly due to the premature fusion of cranial sutures. The skull develops from the bony interposition along the suture lines. When a suture closes prematurely, the skull does not grow in the direction perpendicular to this affected suture, which results in cranial deformities. The type of deformity will depend on which suture was closed prematurely. Cranial Sutures Craniosynostosis is associated with genetic mutations and may appear in isolation or as one of more than 50 syndromes associated with the disease.
