Glucose

Glicose

Glucose, glucose or dextrose, a monosaccharide, is the most important carbohydrate in biology. Cells use it as an energy source and metabolic intermediate. Glucose is one of the main products of photosynthesis and initiates cellular respiration in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is a solid crystal with a sweet taste, of molecular formula C6H12O6, found in nature in free or combined form. Along with fructose and galactose, it is the key carbohydrate of larger carbohydrates, such as sucrose and maltose. Starch and cellulose are glucose polymers. It is found in grapes and in various fruits. Industrially it is obtained from the starch. In metabolism, glucose is one of the main sources of energy and provides 4 calories of energy per gram. Hydrated glucose provides 3.4 calories per gram. Its chemical degradation during the cellular respiration process gives rise to chemical energy, carbon dioxide and water. It presents minimum formula: CH2O Structural formula: ▪ Alpha ▪ Beta ▪ Open chain ... Industrialmente é obtida a partir do amido.
