Situs ambiguus

Situs ambiguus

'Situs ambiguus or heterotaxia is a congenital disorder in the habitual distribution of the thoracic and abdominal organs so that the left and right sides do not match the healthy pattern of development and are almost' mirrored 'to each other. It usually involves complex cardiovascular malformations, splenic abnormalities and poor intestinal rotation. Heterotaxia occurs from an early embryological developmental disorder. It is classified in the group of cardio-spleen syndromes. It is common to be associated with bad rotation or that a pair of organs are on the same side, rather than one on the left and one on the right.
