Kosovo, Kosovo, Kosovo, Kosovo or Cosovo is a disputed territory partially recognized in the Balkan peninsula roughly corresponding to the region known as Dardania in antiquity. The territory was part of the Roman, Byzantine, Bulgarian, Serbian and Ottoman empires and, in the 20th century, passed into the hands of the Kingdom of Serbia, the Italian Empire and Yugoslavia. Following the failure of international negotiations to reach a consensus on acceptable constitutional status, the Kosovo Interim Government unilaterally declared itself to be a country independent of Serbia on February 17, 2008, under the name Republic of Kosovo. The United States and some European countries, such as France, Portugal and Germany. However, the "country" is still claimed by Serbia and has not received recognition from other countries such as Russia, Brazil and Spain. The Serbian government claims the territory as an integral part of Serbia, the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija. Most of Kosovo's population is of Albanian origin.

O território fez parte dos impérios Romano, Bizantino, Búlgaro, Sérvio e Otomano e, no século XX, passou às mãos do Reino da Sérvia, do Império Italiano e da Iugoslávia. Após o falhanço das negociações internacionais para atingir um consenso sobre o estado constitucional aceitável, o governo provisório do Kosovo declarou-se unilateralmente um país independente da Sérvia em 17 de fevereiro de 2008, sob o nome República do Kosovo, sendo reconhecido no dia seguinte pelos Estados Unidos e alguns países europeus, tais como a França, Portugal e a Alemanha. Porém, o "país" ainda é reivindicado pela Sérvia e não recebeu o reconhecimento de outros países como a Rússia, Brasil e Espanha. O governo sérvio reivindica o território como parte integral da Sérvia, a Província Autônoma de Kosovo e Metohija. A maior parte da população do Kosovo é de origem albanesa.
