Nose

Nariz

Nose is the outer part of the respiratory system of humans and some animals; it is the organ of smell and the main passageway of airflow into and out of the lungs. The nose also adds resonance to the human voice. The nose consists of the nasal cavities and the nasal pyramid. The nasal pyramid is the visible structure that forms prominence on the face. It consists essentially of cartilage sheets. Its upper part is formed by bone and the lower part by cartilage. The nasal fossae comprise the space between the pharynx and the nostrils; are divided into two parts by the nasal septum, which extends from the nostrils to the back of the throat. The bones that make up the nose are: the frontal, nasal and maxillary bones. Bones called nasal turbinates protrude into the nasal cavity, forming a series of folds that increase the surface through which air passes.
