Neuralgia

Nevralgia

Neuralgia or neuralgia is pain in one or more nerves caused by a change in the structure or neurological function of the nerves, rather than by arousal of the healthy pain receptors. Neuralgia falls into two categories: central neuralgia, in which the cause of pain is located in the spinal or cerebral marrow, and peripheral neuralgia. This unusual pain is supposedly linked to four possible mechanisms: malfunctioning ion channel gates, nerve fibers become mechanically sensitive and have created an ectopic signal, the signals in the fibers touched traverse the pain fibers and malfunction due to damage in the brain and spinal cord.
