NOTAR

NOTAR, an acronym in English for no tail rotor, is a stabilization process for helicopters developed by McDonnell Douglas in which it eliminates the use of tail rotors in helicopters, thus allowing safer and quieter operation. NOTAR uses the Coandă effect, sending air from the main rotor propellers to the tail junction with the main fuselage. A fan is placed in the fuselage of the section immediately following the tail being operated by the main rotor drive. Rotation force control is affected using this low pressure and high volume air sending through the tail. There are currently three helicopters using NOTAR technology, all produced by McDonnell Douglas: ▪ MD 520N, a variant NOTAR variant of the MD500 Defender series ▪ MD 600N, a larger version of the MD 520N is seen in the movie Casino Royale ▪ MD 902 Explorer ...

NOTAR, um acrónimo em inglês para sem rotor de cauda, é um processo de estabilização para helicópteros desenvolvido pela McDonnell Douglas, no qual elimina a utilização de rotores de cauda em helicópteros, permitindo assim uma operação mais segura e silenciosa. O NOTAR utiliza o efeito Coandă, enviando o ar das hélices do rotor principal para a junção da cauda com a fuselagem principal. Um ventilador está colocado na fuselagem da secção imediatamente a seguir à cauda sendo operado pela transmissão do rotor principal. O controlo da força de rotação é afectado utilizando esta baixa pressão e ar de alto volume enviando através da cauda.
