paleotropical

Paleotropical region

Região paleotropical

In biogeography the tropical region comprises three sub-regions: ▪ "Aethiopais" region, comprising the African continent south of the Sahara desert, ▪ "Madegassis", the island of Madagascar and nearby islands, ▪ Region "Orientalis", comprising India and Southeast Asia to the Wallace line. The paleotropical bioreactor is the largest, in terms of territorial extent and quantity of species. We can emphasize that there are families that are common with the Neotropical Kingdom, so we can consider them pan-tropical. Regarding the relations between the sub-regions of the paleotropical bioreactor, it should be emphasized that, until the beginning of the Cenozoic period, there was an intercontinental bridge linking Africa to the Indian subcontinent, thus allowing the migration of species between these two regions.
