Arthur Schopenhauer was a German philosopher of the nineteenth century. His thinking about love is characterized by not fitting into any of the great systems of his time. His main work is "The World as Will and Representation," although his book "Parerga and Paralipomena" is the best known. Schopenhauer was the philosopher who introduced Buddhism and Indian thought into German metaphysics. Eastern influence in his philosophy made him accept atheism. He was commonly known for his pessimism and understood Buddhism as a confirmation of this realistic-pessimistic view. Schopenhauer also strongly opposed Hegelian philosophy and strongly influenced the thinking of Eduard von Hartmann and Friedrich Nietzsche. Schopenhauer believed in love as a goal in life, but he did not believe it had anything to do with happiness.

Arthur Schopenhauer foi um filósofo alemão do século XIX. Seu pensamento sobre o amor é caracterizado por não se encaixar em nenhum dos grandes sistemas de sua época. Sua obra principal é "O mundo como vontade e representação", embora o seu livro "Parerga e Paralipomena" seja o mais conhecido. Schopenhauer foi o filósofo que introduziu o budismo e o pensamento indiano na metafísica alemã. A influência oriental em sua filosofia o fez aceitar o ateísmo. Ficou vulgarmente conhecido por seu pessimismo e entendia o budismo como uma confirmação dessa visão realista-pessimista.
