The Sinai is a mountainous and desert peninsula of Egypt, between the gulfs of Suez and Aqaba. This name will seek its origin in the god Sin, god of the moon. Therefore it is said that Sinai is the "Land of the Moon"; and the land of the turquoise waters of Peace. It occupies a strategic position linking two continents - Africa and Asia - also separating two seas - the Mediterranean and the Red Sea. The Peninsula has a surface of 61 000 km ² in triangular form divided in two parts: Sinai of the north and the south. Its fauna is very varied and extremely rich especially in birds. Also the flora is of great value, possessing more than 5,000 classes of different plants. This whole region became known for its many underground wells - it is the land of oil, gold, and all kinds of minerals. In it live together people of different religious creeds. Through this peninsula all the prophets passed. According to the Bible, it was on Mount Sinai that YHVH gave the Decalogue to Moses. The peninsula was occupied by the Israeli army in 1967 during the Six Day War and resumed in the first 3 hours in the Yom Kippur War.

O Sinai é uma península montanhosa e desértica do Egito, entre os golfos de Suez e Aqaba. Este nome vai buscar a sua origem no deus Sin, deus da lua. Por isso se diz que Sinai é a "Terra da Lua"; e a terra das águas turquesa da Paz. Ocupa uma posição estratégica que une dois continentes - África e Ásia - separando também dois mares - o Mediterrâneo e o Mar Vermelho. A Península tem uma superfície de 61 000 km² em forma triangular dividindo-se em duas partes: Sinai do norte e do sul. A sua fauna é muito variada e extremamente rica especialmente em aves. Também a flora é de grande valor, possuindo mais de 5.000 classes de plantas diferentes. Toda esta região se tornou conhecida devido aos seus muito numerosos poços subterrâneos - é a terra do petróleo, do ouro e de toda a espécie de minerais. Nela convivem pessoas de diferentes credos religiosos. Por esta Península passaram todos os profetas. Segundo a Bíblia, foi no Monte Sinai que YHVH deu o Decálogo a Moisés. A península foi ocupada pelo exército de Israel em 1967, durante a guerra dos Seis Dias e retomada nas primeiras 3 horas na guerra do Yom Kippur.
