Tapirus

Tapirus is a genus of Perissodactyla of the Tapiridae family that inhabits Central America, South America and South Asia, being popularly known as tapir or tapir. They are the largest mammals of the Neotropics and also the only ones of the order Perissodactyla, ungulates of odd fingers. Currently, five living species are known. Tapirus é um gênero de Perissodactyla da família Tapiridae que habita a América Central, a América do Sul e o sul da Ásia, sendo conhecidos popularmente por anta ou tapir. São os maiores mamíferos dos Neotrópicos e também os únicos da ordem Perissodactyla, os ungulados de dedos ímpares. Atualmente, são conhecidas cinco espécies viventes.
