Ginger-like maple (Eletarria cardamomum) grown in southern India, in Sri Lanka and Malaysia, and whose fruit in the form of flavored capsules contains 12-20 seeds; p.restr. cardamom seeds, brown or black, taken from the pre-baking and dried capsules; used as such, crushed or ground, is one of the most popular and expensive spices in the world.
