der., care pare evidentă. Semantismul se explică prin uzul depreciativ,
cf. bg. galica „lighioană”, și
rom. cioară „pasăre de curte”,
boală „vite”. După REW 3640, ar fi cuvînt identic cu
gaiță, ambele din
sl. (
rus.)
