Retina

A retina or an abdomen is the eye layer in which light and color sensitive cells that provide vision are present. The retina covers the inner surface of the eyeball, a thin translucent and slightly pink-red color. The retina is a two-layered structure consisting of a sensory layer on the inner side and a pigmented layer on the outer side, which faces the ocular cavity. The retina is derived from the word "rete" which means the Latin network, and the Turkish counterpart is also the network layer, which has received this name with the visible network structure of the blood vessels in it.

Retina ya da ağkatman, görmeyi sağlayan ışığa ve renge duyarlı hücrelerin bulunduğu göz tabakasıdır. Retina, göz küremizin iç yüzeyini kaplar, ince yarı saydam ve hafif pembe-kırmızı renkli bir zardır. Retina, göz küresi boşluğuna bakan iç kısımda duyusal tabaka ve dışa doğru kısımda pigmentli tabakadan oluşan iki katmanlı bir yapıdır. Retina, latince ağ anlamına gelen "rete" kelimesinden türemiştir, Türkçe karşılığı da ağ tabakadır, içerisindeki kan damarlarının görülebilir ağsı yapısı nedeni ile bu ismi almıştır.
