Bionics, biomimetics or biomimicry - the use of biological methods and structures for the development of engineering solutions and technological methods. The word "bionic" was suggested by Jack Stile in 1958, probably from the Greek βίον - "unit of life," and the suffix -ic is "-like", that is, the "bionic" means "life-like". Some dictionaries, however, indicate the origin of the English words biology + electronics.
