Hindi or Hindi (devanagari: हिन्दी or हिंदी, IAST: Hindī, MFA: (listen)) is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, one of the two official languages of India. Belongs to Indo-Iranian languages of the Indo-European language family. According to the 2001 census, Hindi is the native language for 41% of India's citizens. Hindi January 26, 1965 became the official language of India (along with English). The Hindi and Urdu languages are close to each other (see Hindustani). Urdu is distinguished by a large number of Arabic and Persian borrowings, as well as by the use of the Arabic alphabet, while the traditional Hindi letter is a component of the devanagari alphabet. Гі́нді або хінді (деванагарі: हिन्दी або हिंदी, IAST: Hindī, МФА: ( слухати)) — одна з найпоширеніших мов у світі, одна з двох державних мов Індії. Належить до індоіранських мов індоєвропейської мовної сім'ї. За даними перепису 2001 року гінді є рідною мовою для 41% громадян Індії. Гінді 26 січня 1965 р. стала офіційною мовою Індії (поряд з англійською). Мови гінді та урду близькі одна до одної (див. Гіндустані). Урду відрізняється більшою кількістю арабських і перських запозичень, а також тим, що використовує арабський алфавіт, тоді як традиційне письмо гінді — складова абетка деванагарі.
Hindi, not known. The Indian language is based on Hindustani and Sanskrit; belongs to the Indian group of Indo-European languages. In India alone, one believes that the Hindi and Urdu are two different languages, while others regard them as two styles of the same language (Movozn., XVIII, 1963, 79). хінді, невідм., ж. Державна мова Індії, створена на основі хіндустані та санскриту; належить до індійської групи індоєвропейських мов. У самій Індії одні вважають, що хінді й урду — дві різні мови, інші вважають їх двома стилями однієї і тієї ж мови (Мовозн., XVIII, 1963, 79).
