Adaptación neuronal o adaptación sensorial es un cambio en el tiempo en la capacidad de respuesta del sistema sensorial a un estímulo constante. Por lo general se experimenta como un cambio en el estímulo. Por ejemplo, si uno descansa la mano sobre una mesa, inmediatamente se siente la superficie de la mesa sobre la propia piel. En pocos segundos, sin embargo, uno deja de sentir la superficie de la mesa. Las neuronas sensoriales estimuladas por la superficie de la mesa responden inmediatamente, pero responden cada vez menos hasta que no responden en absoluto; Este es un ejemplo de adaptación neural. También se piensa que la adaptación neural ocurre en un nivel más central tal como la corteza.
