Bluetooth
Bluetooth es un estándar de tecnología inalámbrica para el intercambio de datos a distancias cortas desde dispositivos fijos y móviles y la creación de redes de área personal. Inventado por el proveedor de telecomunicaciones Ericsson en 1994, originalmente fue concebido como una alternativa inalámbrica a los cables de datos RS-232. Puede conectar varios dispositivos, superando problemas de sincronización. Bluetooth es gestionado por el Grupo de Interés Especial Bluetooth, que cuenta con más de 20.000 empresas miembros en las áreas de telecomunicaciones, informática, redes y electrónica de consumo. Bluetooth se normalizó como IEEE 802.15.1, pero el estándar ya no se mantiene. La SIG supervisa el desarrollo de la especificación, gestiona el programa de calificación y protege las marcas registradas. Para ser comercializado como un dispositivo Bluetooth, debe estar calificado para los estándares definidos por el SIG. Se requiere una red de patentes para implementar la tecnología, que está licenciada sólo para ese dispositivo que califica.
