Burgo
Un burgh / bʌrə / era una entidad corporativa autónoma en Escocia y el norte de Inglaterra, generalmente una ciudad, o toun en escocés. Este tipo de división administrativa existía desde el siglo XII, cuando el rey David I creó los primeros burgueses reales. El estado de Burgh era análogo al estado de la ciudad, encontrado en el resto del Reino Unido. Después de la reorganización del gobierno local en 1975 el título de "burgo real" se mantiene en uso en muchas ciudades, pero ahora tiene poco más que valor ceremonial.
