Comecon
El Consejo para la Asistencia Económica Mutua fue una organización económica de 1949 a 1991 bajo el liderazgo de la Unión Soviética que comprendía los países del bloque del Este junto con un número de estados socialistas en otras partes del mundo. El Comecon fue la respuesta del bloque del Este a la formación de la Organización para la Cooperación Económica Europea en Europa Occidental. El término descriptivo se aplicaba con frecuencia a todas las actividades multilaterales que involucraban a los miembros de la organización, en lugar de limitarse a las funciones directas del Comecon y sus órganos. Este uso a veces se extendía también a las relaciones bilaterales entre los miembros, porque en el sistema de relaciones económicas internacionales socialistas, los acuerdos multilaterales, generalmente de carácter general, tendían a ser implementados a través de un conjunto de acuerdos bilaterales más detallados. Según algunos historiadores, Moscú estaba preocupado por el Plan Marshall. Comecon pretendía entonces evitar que los países de la esfera de influencia de los soviéticos se movieran hacia la de los americanos y del sudeste asiático.
