Ruff (tarjetas)
En los juegos de trick-taking, ruff significa jugar una carta de triunfo a un truco. De acuerdo con las reglas de la mayoría de los juegos, un jugador no debe tener ninguna tarjeta en el traje llevado con el fin de ruff. Dado que los otros jugadores se ven obligados a seguir el ejemplo si pueden, incluso un bajo triunfo puede ganar un truco. En algunos juegos, como Pinochle y Preferans, el jugador que no puede seguir el juego se requiere para ruff. En otros, como Bridge y Whist, puede descartarlo. Normalmente, el ruffing ganará un truco. Pero también es posible que un jugador subsiguiente se sobrepase. Esto no siempre es una mala cosa-ver uppercut abajo.
