Transversión
En biología molecular, transversion se refiere a la sustitución de una purina por una pirimidina o viceversa. Sólo puede revertirse mediante una reversión espontánea. Debido a que este tipo de mutación cambia drásticamente la estructura química, las consecuencias de este cambio tienden a ser más drásticas que las de las transiciones. Esto se debe a que la posición de oscilación del ADN, que en gran medida es responsable de la degeneración del código, es más tolerante a la transición que una transversión, de tal manera que una mutación de transición es más probable que conduzca al mismo aminoácido que está codificado para. Las trasversiones pueden ser causadas por radiación ionizante y agentes alquilantes.
