Se contiene en jugo de manzanas, melocotones, Loción cosmética, crema, pasta de dientes, aditivo alimentario, materia prima sintética de vitaminas, edulcorantes de pacientes diabéticos, diuréticos. El punto de fusión es 93 ~ 97.5 ℃. La fórmula es CH _ {2} OH _ {4} CH _ {2} OH.
