Durómeros: plásticos poliméricos que tienen las características de metal o cerámica: duros, no elásticos, con alta resistencia mecánica a la tracción y a la compresión, pero generalmente no se derriten o son refractarios y con frecuencia frágiles. Los durómeros de difusión también se llaman duroplastos. Los polímeros tienen propiedades de durómetro si: ▪ están altamente entrecruzados o ▪ tienen cadenas principales polares rígidas y de peso molecular muy alto que interactúan fuertemente entre sí para formar, por ejemplo, una red de enlaces de hidrógeno. Los durómeros más conocidos incluyen: ▪ reticulado: ▪ baquelita y otros fenómenos ▪ resinas de poliéster reticulado ▪ resinas epoxídicas reticuladas ▪ no reticulado ▪ polietileno ▪ poliacrílico ▪ poliacrilonitrilo ▪ algunas poliamidas, por ejemplo, kevlar ▪ polibencimidazol ▪ fibra de carbono

Duromery – polimerowe tworzywa sztuczne posiadające cechy metalu lub ceramiki - twarde, nieelastyczne, z wysoką wytrzymałością mechaniczną na rozciąganie i ściskanie, ale zazwyczaj nietopliwe lub trudnotopliwe i często kruche. Trudnotopliwe duromery są też nazywane duroplastami. Polimery posiadają własności duromeru jeśli: ▪ są usieciowane w wysokim stopniu lub ▪ posiadają bardzo wysoką masę cząsteczkową i jednocześnie sztywne, polarne łańcuchy główne, które silnie oddziałują między sobą tworząc np. sieć wiązań wodorowych.
