Bacteriófago, bacteria atacante del virus del fago. En su mayoría, un bacteriófago dado es capaz de infectar solo una especie de bacteria. Los bacteriófagos pueden tomar la forma de formas complejas, de roedores o poliédricas. En cierta infección por fagos se produce de tal manera que el ácido nucleico se inyecta a través de las células bacterianas de apertura, hechos por una cola retráctil proteína y parte de la proteína permanece en el exterior del virus. Los bacteriófagos infectan y matan a las bacterias, mientras que las bacterias benignas se acumulan en el cromosoma y pueden existir por muchas generaciones. Los bacteriófagos se pueden dividir en: ▪ que contiene ADN de cadena doble - el mayor grupo de bacteriófagos la construcción de la cabeza poliédrica mezclado, el tamaño de 100 nm y que tiene una "cola" ▪ que contiene ADN de una sola cadena - por ejemplo, Tamaño de 27 nm, una estructura poliédrica o helicoidal ▪ ARN que contiene - tamaño de 20. -25 nm, construcción de paredes múltiples. Se utilizan cepas seleccionadas de bacteriófagos para destruir las bacterias patógenas. La terapia con fagos se usa en el caso de infecciones resistentes a los antibióticos.

Bakteriofag, fag – wirus atakujący bakterie. Przeważnie dany bakteriofag zdolny jest do infekcji tylko jednego gatunku bakterii. Bakteriofagi mogą przybierać kształty złożone, pałeczkowate lub wielościenne. U pewnych fagów zakażenie następuje w ten sposób, że kwas nukleinowy jest wstrzykiwany przez otwór komórki bakterii, zrobiony przez białko kurczliwe pod ogonkiem, zaś część białkowa wirusa pozostaje na zewnątrz. Bakteriofagi zjadliwe namnażają się i zabijają bakterię, łagodne natomiast wbudowują się w chromosom komórki bakteryjnej i mogą istnieć przez wiele jej pokoleń. Bakteriofagi można podzielić na: ▪ zawierające dwuniciowy DNA – największa grupa bakteriofagów o budowie mieszanej, wielościennej główce, wielkości 100 nm i mających "ogonek" ▪ zawierające jednoniciowy DNA – np. wielkości 27 nm, o budowie wielościennej lub helikalnej ▪ zawierające RNA – wielkości 20-25 nm, o budowie wielościennej Wybrane szczepy bakteriofagów są wykorzystywane do niszczenia bakterii chorobotwórczych. Terapia fagowa jest stosowana w przypadku infekcji antybiotykoopornych.
