Barge es una designación genérica para los diferentes tipos de estructuras flotantes hechas de acero, madera u hormigón, con fondo plano, cuerpo completo, arado o no planificado, generalmente sin propulsión, y se utiliza en puertos, lagunas, distritos costeros y canales y ríos a gran escala, transporte de carga a granel, y diversos servicios de mantenimiento y puertos. Como regla, él no tiene sus propios medios de propulsión y es remolcado por un barco especial, un remolcador; pero también hay barcazas autopropulsadas. En muchos puertos, se utilizan para transportar mercancías de los buques al muelle y viceversa o, especialmente, para alterar las operaciones.
