Chaetognatha
Chaetognatha, c'est-à-dire les mèches de poils et communément appelées vers de flèches, sont un phylum de vers marin prédateur qui est une composante majeure du plancton dans le monde entier. Environ 20% des espèces connues sont benthiques et peuvent s'attacher aux algues et aux roches. On les trouve dans toutes les eaux marines, depuis les eaux tropicales de surface et les bassins peu profonds jusqu'à la haute mer et les régions polaires. La plupart des chaetognaths sont transparents et sont en forme de torpille, mais certaines espèces de haute mer sont orange. Ils varient en taille de 2 à 120 millimètres. Plus de 120 espèces modernes sont affectées à plus de 20 genres. Malgré la diversité limitée d'espèces, le nombre d'individus est important.
