Halothane
L'halothane est une anesthésie générale inhalatoire. Son nom IUPAC est le 2-bromo-2-chloro-1,1,1-trifluoroéthane. C'est le seul agent anesthésique inhalatoire contenant un atome de brome; Plusieurs autres agents d'anesthésie halogène ne présentent pas l'atome de brome et contiennent les atomes de fluor et de chlore présents dans l'halothane. Il est incolore et agréable, mais instable dans la lumière. Il est emballé dans des bouteilles de couleur noire et contient 0,01% de thymol comme agent stabilisant. C'est sur la liste des médicaments essentiels de l'Organisation mondiale de la santé, une liste des médicaments les plus importants nécessaires dans un système de santé de base. Son utilisation dans les pays développés, cependant, a été presque entièrement remplacée par de nouveaux agents anesthésiques inhalatoires.
